This is an exposition of the theological framework of the Old Testament upon

which the New Testament is built. This framework outlines the coherent

message of the Old Testament. It not only helps us see how each of the books

in the Old Testament fits into a coherent whole, it serves two other

purposes. 1) It shows how integral the New Testament is to the Old Testament

and thus helps us appreciate the New Testament better and interpret it more

accurately. 2) It gives us an interpretive framework to view world history

between the two comings of Christ, enabling us to see how secular history

has been integral to the mission of the Church. Also, by studying the

kingdom of God as expressed in the Old Testament, we can mine insights into

how to "seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness" in contemporary

society.

There are two assignments. The first is a review of Walter Kaiser's book

Toward an Old Testament Theology and Robert Hubbard's short paper, “Doing

Old Testament Theology Today”. The second is a paper on the expository study

of any text in the Old Testament. The paper is not an expository sermon but

a presentation of an exegetical theology of the text chosen, upon which an

expository sermon may be based.
